Project Three

This is the very beginning stages of my project and I’m already excited what direction it’s going in. I’m excited to play around with adding more layers, masks, and blending options. I like the idea and aesthetic of a journal type entry. So I’m looking forward to developing my concept further as well.

  1. This is going to be sick! A composite taking place in a sketchbook could turn out really cool. What is your idea in one word? What is the cyclical nature of your idea? I'm excited to see what else you add and how it plays into the pages of the book.

    1. Thank you! :-) I’m still sort of developing my concept, but I’m starting to think my one word idea is “love” and the cyclical nature is love and loss/heartbreak

  2. I feel like you could take this in a very abstract way. When I look at this journal, it feels very personal and intimate, and I think that's a lot of qualities that have to do with love. Love is questionable too right? I think having this vagueness would speak to your decisions forward into this project.

I know our project brief says this has to be 11x17, but I feel like to give your concept a journal aesthetic, it should be represented in a series. Maybe theres pages are smaller and make a big 11x17 display. Maybe you could talk with Ed to figure this out?

  3. I too like the journal theme idea for this project, especially with the photos that you have taken. It reminds me of the notebooks that are shown in movie intros with ink blots and stains for some reason, I like it though. Also, I noticed that you mentioned your concept being the idea of love, this might be a little cliche but you could add spots that look like tears in reference to heartbreak and sadness. Do you know how you are doing to incorporate other photos? Or what direction you want to take the image? I think so far this is a really good bases that allows for a lot of potential. Looking forward to seeing more!

  4. With your concept of a notebook or journal, I cannot help but think about the Japanese series "The Death Note". Much like Yesenia said, you could go in a really abstract direction with your idea. It would be really neat to see some sort of sequence of events in the journal - Like, dumb example, but laying out the steps of making a PP&J sandwich.

  5. I think the idea of a journal is so amazing and personal. What you have so far is really beautiful. I'm so excited to see what you do with the journal and your concept. I think you're off to a great start because the idea of a journal is already a romantic one.

  7. This is really exciting, I love when images take on a more seamless editing look. I'm looking forward to seeing how you integrate the images of crystals and watercolors that you took. Your progress so far makes me think of that MC Escher lithograph of the hands drawing each other (it's called "Drawing Hands" if you want to look it up), which hints at one idea of "the cyclical nature of things" - maybe you could include some of the images you took as sketches coming to life or something of that nature.
